An Update on My Direction and Introducing Mathias Media

| March 11, 2014 | 20 Comments

In the past two months, I’ve been hired for several consulting and website development projects. Those, along with sales of the new course I launched in January, have brought in some decent income for me for the first time since leaving my job last summer.

I remain distracted daily by all the opportunities out there. The fact is, I’m a jack of all trades. I’m pretty good at many, many things, but not THE expert at much of anything. So, it’s tough to fine tune what I should be focusing on and in what area I should build my business.

But, the completion and launch of my blogging course (click here to learn more about it) has brought in paid projects relating to helping people build websites and help them accomplish other technical aspects of an online marketing strategy. It’s weird how having a product like my course up and for sale allowed me to earn money in other ways like consulting and project work. But it’s a lesson really. It just means that successes build upon each other. When you complete one thing, now you’ve got that to show your credibility. Then, after people buy it or hire you, you’ve got those customers to add to your credibility. This whole thing is just one building block on top of another. Eventually, these building blocks will form a freestanding structure, or business in this case.

I’ve Come to Really Enjoy Helping People

During these past few weeks, I’ve realized that I want to form a real service business. I want to point people to a website and give out business cards that reference a real entity I have that offers website development, training on a variety of online marketing aspects and consulting. The fact is, I love doing that work. So, yes, I want to continue to create digital products to offer for sale, but I also want to get in the trenches and do the work. I love the skills I’m building by doing the work. I also love the relationships I’m building.

And best of all, services are just flat out easier to sell. I’ve manage to sell my services without even asking for the sale. People have basically thrown money in my face and asked me to take it lately in exchange for my “expertise”. Weird. People have not done that with my course. It is quite challenging selling my course in comparison. So obviously, I learned that selling services are an easier sell, for me, at this time, at least.

Introducing Mathias Media

So, today, I introduce my new service business, Mathias Media. You can find us at www.mathiasmedia.com, although there isn’t much on that site yet. I’m offering website development using WordPress, including all kinds of custom designing if you’d like. I also can train you on everything I know, which comes from 2.5 years of using WordPress and building many sites and customizing the heck out of them. I can also help you determine what to do, which services to use and how to operationally accomplish your internet marketing initiative.

So, if you want something done online and aren’t able to do it yourself, check out my site and get in contact with me. I’d love to work together. At this time, I’m interested most in working with small businesses and entrepreneurs, but if you’re just doing it as a hobby and want help, we can talk as well.

Watch the video if you haven’t already because at the end of it, I’ve got a great offer for a few of you today.

Please Keep Me In Mind

You can continue to expect Create My Independence to remain a blog about my journey and experience. With the introduction of Mathias Media, I’ll be reserving most of my commercial initiatives for that site. Please remember though that I’m an entrepreneur who’s trying to build a real business here, so if you are in need of help in the areas above or you know of someone who is, keep me in mind.

Thanks for being here and know that I really appreciate you.

PS: Remember to watch the video above to hear about about my special offer for you today.

Hey Kraig I’m glad to see your finding some more direction since venturing off on your own. Its inspirational to see someone jump in with both feet and figure out how to make it on their own.

Wishing you the best going forward!

    • BJ,

Thanks. I really appreciate your coming by and for offering encouragement and support. Please keep me in mind if you should need help with the technical area mentioned. Also, if you have thoughts or ideas on what I could do to better build my business and add value for others.

      Thanks and take care!

Mathiasmedia looks like a really interesting project – I hope it starts to generate you a consistent income stream. I look forward to hearing updates on how it is going.

    • MS,

Thanks. It will take some work to get out there to build those relationships and trust, but I believe it’s a good move for me. Please keep me in mind should you need help or if you know of others who need help with all the technical jazz of website development/customization and all the areas I mentioned in the post and video.

      Take care!

  3. Congrats on the launch, Kraig. I’m glad you’re finding new niches for your business!

This is my first time i visit here. I found so many entertaining stuff in your blog, especially its discussion. From the tons of comments on your articles, I guess I am not the only one having all the enjoyment here! Keep up the good work.

Mathias Media rolls off the tongue nicely.

Have you looked into sites like http://www.freelancer.com to mine for work?

    • Hi Wade,

Nice to hear from you again. I appreciate the feedback. I like the sound of it as well.

I have not looked into that. For now, my strategy will be based on referrals and people in my community, but yes, I may look into sites like that at some point. Thanks for the tip.

Hope things are well with you.

    • Wade,

I guess the problem I have with sites like this is captured perfectly in your comment with the part “mine for work”. There’s something about “mining for work” that turns me off. I don’t believe work should need to be “mined for”.

Instead, I’m focusing on building relationships and adding value for others and I believe opportunities will come from that.

  6. Good luck in your ventures! I am going to get the blogging invitation.

    Kraig, You Absolutely Rock,

What I Love about You is your authenticity and Your Obviously Heart-Centered Commitment to Your dreams AND Making a difference.

I would love to have a website for my small business, and maybe a blog, too.

    Blessings,

    Hey Kraig,

Although it’s tempting to move into consulting, I would honestly try to avoid that route. Spending your energy on building an online business rather than doing odd jobs for clients is likely going to prove much more productive. Consulting is just another way of trading your time for dollars and doesn’t give you as much independence as you might think.

I just wanted to let you know my thoughts as I’ve been down this path myself and am now trying to move away from client work to focus solely on my online business. All the best with whichever direction you choose to go!

    John
